Like many jewelry makers, I sell my finished jewelry, but I don't enjoy the marketing aspect of this part of the jewelry business. Therefore, because of my distaste of selling and my enjoyment of writing, I eventually decided to combine my jewelry making skills with my writing skills, and I have been fairly successful. I write for my jewelry making website at About.com, a few magazines, and have also managed to publish a few books on jewelry making.
I'm always telling other jewelry makers that there are other ways to make money with their jewelry talent, and this is one example of how this is possible.
While it is feasible to self-publish, you can also approach a publisher with a book project, and since most of the questions I've gotten about my book are "how'd you do that?" I thought it was time to explore this alternative to earning income through the art of jewelry making.
