• HyperText Markup Language, or HTML, is the basis for nearly all webpages on the Internet today. First composed in 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee, HTML is now up to its fourth incarnation, HTML 4.0, which is maintained to standards by the international organization, the World Wide Web Consortium. In HTML, elements enclosed in brackets describe to Web browsers how to interpret and display content to viewers.
