I have a lot of older relatives who are self employed.
They are from a different time though, their successes predate the internet.
They always ask why a person needs a website.
There are a lot of reasons to have a website, but I don't want to break down a list of reasons like everyone else.
I just want to focus on one benefit.
To me this is the ultimate benefit.
This is the most popular reason I give to people wondering why they should have a website.
It always gets them thinking.
Your website is a 24 hours, seven day a week salesperson.
People "get" that.
When you put it like that, even the most old school of the business owners start thinking about the power of a website.
I am not saying that single thought sells everyone, but anyone who hears that is instantly curious...
even if they won't admit it.
It is also one hundred percent true.
Just like a salesperson you want your website to conform to certain standards and be an ambassador of your brand.
Its gotta look good.
You wouldn't send out a sales person in a mustard stained tank top and ripped jeans would you? By that same token, you shouldn't have a shabby looking website.
Like a salesperson, your website will be judged instantly by it's appearance.
Making sure your site looks good and professional will instantly put people at ease.
You will ensure people learn about you before they tune out.
The site has to be informative.
Would you send out a salesperson that couldn't explain what your business was? Would you send out one that couldn't answer basic questions about your business? Of course you wouldn't, so why do so many people do that with their website? Your website needs to explain your business properly and the more content and information you have the better.
Keep the information fresh too and constantly being added.
If you want your salesperson to be knowledgeable and caught up on the latest news, then you want the same for your website.
If you get into the mindset that your website is a 24 hour, 7 days a week salesperson you will naturally take better care of it and demand perfection.
The best part about the website though? It doesn't ask for vacation, it doesn't require overtime and it works for virtually no money.
Try finding a salesperson that does that.
