Do you suffer from low blood pressure? Dehydration might be the cause! Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, is a very wide-spread condition that can be very harmful to you, leading to kidney diseases, cardiovascular diseases and even heart attacks.
To prevent hypotension, you must know what causes it.
Dehydration is one of the most important low blood pressure determinants.
What causes dehydration? Dehydration means that your organism does not have enough water and fluids to function properly.
This condition occurs mostly because of: 1.
diarrhea (the most common cause); 2.
vomiting; 3.
and excessive urination (sometimes caused by diuretic medication).
Other factors that decrease body fluids are: excessive sweating, fever and strokes.
Diuretics (also known as water pills), like furosemide, are medications that reduce the amount of water in your body.
Uncontrolled use of these drugs can lead to dehydration and excessively lower you blood pressure.
What are the symptoms? If you suffer from dehydration, the amount of blood that runs through your body also decreases, causing low blood pressure.
How can you tell if you are dehydrated? Your body will let you know.
If you feel thirsty, nauseated, have a dry mouth, or have muscle cramps, it means your organism needs more fluids.
Dehydration can get more severe if you do not drink fluids to make sure your body gets the amount of water it needs.
You should pay attention to these symptoms, because if the dehydration level increases, you can develop hypotension and, in the worst cases, you may even go into shock or die.
How to prevent dehydration Preventing dehydration is not as hard as it seems.
To maintain you body fluids you only have to drink at least eight glasses of water every day.
And water really means water, not soft drinks, coffee or alcoholic drinks!
