- 1). Determine which organization you would like to become a judge for and what disciplines you are qualified to judge. The Global Equine Academy lists "horse show judge" as a possible career opportunity for individuals who graduate from its equine certification programs. If you want to become a judge and need to gather a broad base of information, an online-based equine education program would be a good step in the right direction.
- 2). Apply to the organization of your choice. The American Quarter Horse organization, the largest breed registry in the United States, offers an online application. However, judges are expected to attend and pass a qualification exam, provide photographs for identification, become a member of the organization, list their experience and provide letters of reference. Application fees are required.
- 3). Complete all necessary specifications required by breed organization. These may include completing organization specific classes, passing exams, or working as a judge's assistant for a certain number of shows.
