How to Build a Telecaster Kit

    • 1). Remove all of the pieces from the box. Place all of the pieces together in groups so that they will be easy to access when you start assembling the instrument. Check to see what tools will be necessary to complete the kit and place the tools to the side for easy access during assembly.

    • 2). Attach the neck to the body. Use the four large screws that are present to attach the neck to the body of the Telecaster at the neck heel. Slide the neck heel into the rout for the neck on the body. Screw the four screws into the predrilled holes on the back of the neck heel and tighten the screws with a large screwdriver for added torque. Tighten them all to about 90 percent then finish the tightening in a clockwise manner, starting with the top left screw. Hold the guitar with the neck pointed upwards to make sure it does not twist.

    • 3). Attach the bridge to the Telecaster. The Telecaster bridge also contains the surround for the bridge pickup. Line the bridge up with the predrilled holes on the body and carefully screw it into place, making sure to screw the screws in gently as too much force may cause you to slip and damage the paint on the body.

    • 4). Attach the pickups to the body. Place the bridge pickup in the rout on the bridge by feeding the wire through the small hole in the bottom of the pickup cavity. Repeat this procedure for the neck pickup as well, making sure that the wires are fed through the small cavity into the control cavity.

    • 5). Solder the wires to the control plate and feed the output wire on the volume jack through the small hole to the spot where the output jack is located. Screw the control plate into its rout using the two screws to hold it down. Solder the output wire to the output jack and screw that into place as well.

    • 6). Attach the tuners to the head stock. String the guitar up and tune it using an electric tuner. Screw the strap locks into place and plug the guitar in to make sure that the pickups are functioning properly.
