Perform Maternity Acupressure for a Natural Birth

Anyone that chooses can perform maternity acupressure. This applies to experienced midwives and licensed practitioners and to someone that has never tried it before. When women seek to perform maternity acupressure, it is because it is a natural, non-invasive way to gain control in what can be a confusing and stressful time. People perform maternity acupressure for a number of reasons:

To strengthen uterine contractions

To induce labor

To control and manage the pain of labor

To correctly position the baby in the womb

To help guide the child from the womb to the world

It is the expectant mother's choice as to who she asks to help her. Her birthing partner can be the experienced practitioner or the baby's father or family friend. The mother can have the partner she is comfortable with present at the birth of her child.

Whether a woman is going to use a professional or if she is going to pick her own partner, she needs research the specific points used . There are three main points on a woman's body that can be used to induce labor:

The skin between the thumb and forefinger of the right hand

The point on the small of the back, about one half of an inch above the dimple

The point on the inside of the leg, about two inches above the ankle bone

These points can be found on the expectant mother's body, but should not be massaged or practiced on. These points have a very strong affect on the body and can induce premature labor if they are triggered. When finding the points on the mother's body, they can be touched and should feel tender. This sensation will change in labor.

The partner will be responsible for massaging these points during labor. He or she should not massage one area for more than 30 minutes. If the desired result is not reached another point should be tried, or that point should be allowed to rest for at least five minutes before starting it again.

When her partner starts to perform maternity acupressure on these spots, the mother should be in the most comfortable position possible. However, with the spot on the back,  the best position to be in is the on the hands and knees. The other two pressure points can be used with the mother sitting up.

Expectant mothers, birthing partners and professionals have all witnessed the successful use of maternity acupressure. This technique helps manage pain, with other benefits that lead to giving birth in a safe and controlled manner. The whole process of labor, from inducing to birthing can be done in a secure, protected manner that lets the mother give birth in a way she is comfortable with.

For a mother and her birth partner to perform maternity acupressure, it provides a way to be active in the birthing process and to share such a momentous event with other family members, or close, personal friends.
