If China is the world’s factory for manufactured goods, India could well be the world’s factory for software services/ Information Technology (IT)-enabled services. Known globally as the world’s back office, India is home to one of the largest number of skilled information technology professionals.
While the city of Bangalore holds the reputation for being the IT capital of India, several other ‘tier-2’ cities are mushrooming as key IT centres. Gurgaon, on the outskirts of the national capital New Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune in Maharashtra are the leaders among the emerging cities.
A large number of both small as well as major IT companies are opening development/ delivery centres in Pune. For example, Infosys, the Nasdaq-listed Indian IT major has a large software delivery centre in Pune. Larsen & Toubro Infotech, AccelTree Software, Advent Software, Dynamics Logistics are just some of the known software players that have taken to Pune. Apart from software development, the city is carving a name for itself in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. Well known organizations such as Accenture Services and Quexst Solutions operate out of this city. With around 100 software companies, the city also offers excellent job opportunities and therefore attracting migrants from metros like Mumbai. Moreover, Pune provides the right ecosystem for nascent industries such as animation and gaming.
The city has a reputation for being the cultural capital of the state of Maharashtra; it has also been one of the chief industrial centres in the state with several leading automakers operating here; IT is the latest feather in the cap of this city.
Getting more cosmopolitan and global
Pune offers abundant talent, technology and tolerance- some key attributes needs to make it a global city. With several institutes and universities, the city is also known for providing international quality education. No wonder, Indians as well as foreigners see a lot of scope for personal as well professional growth in this city.
The growing stature of this city on the global stage was evident when it bid for and successfully hosted the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008. These Games also had a great positive impact on the hotel industry and tourism here.
As a result, there is no dearth of both luxury and budget Pune hotels now, catering to the burgeoning demand of international business visitors to the city. Since some of the hotels here are relatively unknown, it will be extremely useful to check some Pune hotel reviews before making your hotel reservation.
