Remedy for Baldness

    Natural Prevention

    • While baldness is genetic, there are ways to prevent baldness, or at least delay its onset. A healthy diet is key, as hair is made of protein, so be sure to get enough protein in your diet. This can also help regrow lost hair.

Taking a daily vitamin or mineral supplement will also help, as hair needs certain vitamins (such as vitamin B) to grow properly.

    Minoxidil

    • Minoxidil, available in liquid or cream form, is rubbed or sprayed onto the scalp with the intent of preventing future hair loss and regrowing hair. However, only about a third of those who use the product actually find it to be a useful form of baldness prevention, and the product does not cure frontal baldness at all. Plus, minoxidil can be messy and leave the scalp feeling oily or sticky. Minoxidil is also available in a women's formula.

    Finasteride

    • Available only through a doctor's prescription, finasteride is prescribed to prevent balding while regrowing hair. It has a high success rate, but because it is not covered by most insurance plans, it can run upward of $70 for a one-month supply. Plus, the product has yielded sexual side effects in certain men. Consult your doctor about using finasteride, which is not intended for female use.

    Hair Transplants

    • Hair transplants include a surgical procedure where a doctor removes hair from a non-thinning area then transplants it into a bald/balding area. Reviews are mixed on these, as some men experience great results, while a poorly administered surgery can yield aesthetically unpleasing results. Consult your doctor for more information on this form of baldness treatment.

    Laser Hair Loss Treatment

    • A fairly new form of baldness treatment involves a device that projects light energy from 30 positions, hitting 600 places on your scalp. The light is intended to stimulate cells, thereby stimulating hair growth in dead/damaged cells. This nonsurgical procedure must be repeated for optimal use, sometimes up to once a month.
