How to Make a Bell Ornament Using a Flower Pot

Eleanor explains how you can make adorable bell ornaments using a clay flower pot and a few other supplies.
  • Age Guideline: 12 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

  • Small Clay Pot
  • Metallic Acrylic Paint(color of Choice)

Instructions:
Paint the pot, inside and out, with the metallic paint. If you like, the inside can be a different color, Eleanor said she usually uses gold or silver for the inside no matter what color she uses for the outside. Her favorite is sapphire blue on the outside and silver on the inside.

Paint the wooden bead the same color as inside of the bell. Let the wooden bead dry.

Cut a piece of metallic cord about 20-inches long. This will be longer than you will need!

Now, start off my folding the metallic cord in half so that both cord ends are together and there is a loop on the other end. You then thread the loop through the bead. Pull the loop through the bead so it is long enough to use to hang your ornament. Tie a knot in the cord to hold the bead on the cord, the knot should be in the cord on the side of the bead there the two ends are.

The ends of the cord should be left long enough to tie on the wooden bead to be the bell clapper. Thread the wooden bead onto the ends of the cord and tie it in place. You will want it to hang so it is just peeking out from the clay pot bell. Clip the ends of the cord if necessary.

Finally, put a dab of glue on the bead on the side opposite of the cord knot. Thread the loop of the cord, from the inside of the clay pot, up through the hole in bottom of the clay pot.

To decorate your bell, use stickers or rub-on decals. You can also paint your own design and personalize it with a name and date. You can also glue on small sequin stars and other embellishments.
