Introduction and Materials
I like to play around with findings and I wanted a way to integrate a clasp so that it takes on elements of the piece of jewelry I'm designing. This playing around lead me to figure to this beaded hook clasp, which incorporates a bead right onto the clasp. You can use any number of beads such as lampwork, crystal, stone, polymer clay, whatever fits on your wire.
To make one, you'll need:
3 inches of *20-gauge round sterling wire
Round-nosed pliers
Jeweler's files
Your choice of bead
*If you plan to use this for a fairly heavy necklace, I suggest using half-hard wire.
Start the First Wire Loop
1. Begin by filing both ends of your wire smooth and then using your round nosed pliers to create a small loop on one end of your wire.
Begin the Wire Hook
2. Again use your round-nosed pliers to form a hook on one end of the wire.
Add a Wire Loop
3. Measure down about 1/4 inch away from where your hook ends, hold this spot with the small part of your round nosed pliers, and wrap the other end of the wire around the nose in order to create a loop in about the middle of your wire.
4. Slip on your choice of bead.
Note: I used a lampwork beads, but you can use other beads as well. Just make sure to check that the wire will fit through the hole i the bead before you start.
5. Finish by making a loop at the end of the wire (again with your pliers). This will keep your bead on and also allow you to add this part to your jewelry piece.
