- 1). Turn off the main water line, it is usually located in the basement or crawlspace beneath the building.
- 2). Open the outside sillcock to let any water left in the pipe drain out.
- 3). Locate where the pipe comes inside from the outdoor sillcock and clean it with the sandpaper where you will make the cut to splice in the new line and sillcock.
- 4). Cut the pipe. Tighten the cutter onto the copper tubing and rotate it all the way around the pipe. Tighten the cutter slightly and run it all the way around again. Keep doing this until the pipe is cut.
- 5). Unscrew and remove the old sillcock and fit the new one into the existing hole.
- 6). Secure the sillcock in place with decking screws if you are mounting on wood siding. If it is metal siding use self-tapping stainless steel screws. For masonry, mark the mounting holes and remove the sillcock. Drill the holes with the masonry bit and tap the anchors in place with a hammer. Slide the sillcock back into place and secure to the anchors with stainless steel screws.
- 7). Remove the handle and washer assembly from the new sillcock with the adjustable wrench.
- 8). Cut the new piece of copper tubing to fit from the new sillcock pipe end to the existing water line where you cut it. Clean off both ends of the pipe with sandpaper.
- 9). Brush flux onto both ends of the new copper tubing and onto the end of the existing pipe where you cut it.
- 10
Slide the new copper tubing into the fitting on the end of the new sillcock and into one end of the copper coupler. Slide the other end of the copper coupler onto the existing water line where you cut it. - 11
Heat up the first connection with the torch. Touch the solder to the pipe and when the pipe is hot enough, the solder will flow into the joint. Do this for all three of the new connections. - 12
Run a bead of caulk where the sillcock meets the outside wall. Put the hand and washer assembly back onto the new sillcock and turn the main water line back on. - 13
Inspect the new joints for any water leaks.
