- 1). Make a list of learner characteristics. Choose and include at least three. A learner characteristic will describe the student type and take into account the different type of learning styles. For example: "This course is designed for students ages 18 to 26 who are entering college for the first time."
- 2). Write a course description. Include five to six sentences that describe the college course. The description should be brief and include information relating to the level of course and topics that will be explored. For example, your course description might read: "This course will introduce students to the basic concepts of Biblical figures in modern day literature. It discusses the Bible's relationship to the social issues surrounding human behavior."
- 3). List learning outcomes. Learning outcomes set forth what students will know following the course. An example might be: "Students will understand how the Bible relates to modern day circumstances," or, "Students will demonstrate knowledge of Biblical figures from the Old Testament." List five to six learning outcomes for the course.
- 4). Develop a course timeline. List the start and finish date of the college course. Create the timeline by separating the course in sections by date. For example, for an eight-week course, the timeline will break every two weeks. Underneath the first two weeks, write the activity students will engage in during that time. For example: "Students will read Chapters 1 to 7 from the text ABC, and discuss the role of religion and society."
- 5). List content topics. The list should summarize each topic that the instructor will discuss during the college course. Next to each topic, write a one sentence standard statement.
- 6). Compile a list of resources and tools that will be used the college course. Include textbooks, handouts, maps, magazine articles, Internet resources, and biblical references.
- 7). Write a syllabus, The syllabus outlines the logistics of the course from start to finish. Sections would include your grading and attendance policy, course description, course materials, and the instructor's name and availability.
