Organizer: The bill was sponsored by Representatives Patsy Takemoto Mink (D-Hawaii) and Edith Starrett Green (D-Oregon). The law was later renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act.

What to do: Title IX (usually called Title Nine) states that "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." Although it was not written specifically to address inequality in sports, it led to a 600% increase in girls participating in sports.
