How to Get Police Reports for an Accident You Were Involved In

    • 1). Call the number listed on the business card of the responding officer.

    • 2). Explain to the office about the accident you were in to jog his/her memory and then ask how to obtain the police report. If the officer doesn't answer, leave a detailed message with the time, date, location, your name, and number at which you can be reached.

    • 3). Call your local courthouse and ask the clerk how you can obtain a copy of the police report if the officer can't help. You may be required to drive to the courthouse to pick up a copy of the report. There may also be a fee. Bring cash.

    • 4). Call both your insurance company and the insurance company of the other person who was involved in the accident if calling the courthouse doesn't yield results. Ask for a copy of the police report. They may mail it to you.
