Health Insurance Causes A Stir

American health insurance [http://www.onlyinsurance.com/Health-Insurance/] and medical scans for Medicare patients, has become President Barak Obama's prime target recently. Through his new initiative plan, he hopes to cut such medical treatment bill costs.

As a result, many physicians and healthcare insiders have accused Obama of denying patients the lifesaving tools they need.

Patients, rural doctors and advocacy groups who back the new protest will gather for a meeting to discuss the campaign.

Such professionals are so angered by the move, that there are 57 House members objecting to the cuts. It has staged events in North Carolina and other states where senators face re-election next year. It is also using the internet to encourage people to complain to Congress about the proposal.

This is the first real health matter test Obama faces, as he plans to reform the nation's health care system to reduce costs and cover the nearly 50 million uninsured Americans, while finding the $1 trillion needed to make such a plan work, over the next 10 years.

The Senate Health, Education, Labour and Pensions Committee are in its second week of work on a health care bill. Top House Democrats revealed their proposals last week, and another step is taking shape in the Senate Finance Committee.

David French, a lobbyist for the International Franchise Association, which represents franchised businesses from restaurants to tanning salons and dislikes key parts of Obama's plan said: "I think you'll see a lot of scepticism because specifics have pain attached to them. We're no longer shooting at ghosts. There are real targets."

To enhance their disagreement power, insurers, drug producers and other parts of the health sector have made over $372 million in campaign contributions to lawmakers since 2000.

Nearly half the total - $178 million - has gone to members of House and Senate committees that are overseeing health programs. They have also spent over $3 billion lobbying, with their yearly expenditures growing each annum, the study said.

Getting the Obama treatment

The fight over Medicare reimbursements for medical imaging is typical of the intensified lobbying. Use of the procedures grew to 182 million in 2007, according to an industry study.

The Obama administration cites figures revealing Medicare's price tag for their services, which doubled from $7 billion in 2000 to $14 billion in 2006.

Obama hopes to cut the Medicare bill by $5.9 billion over the next decade. This ambition, doctor's state, is based on outdated and unreliable research.

Timothy Trysla, the executive director of the Access to Medical Imaging Coalition said: "This is exactly where medicine is going because the scans diagnose diseases and save money, which represents doctors, manufacturers and patients.

"Our biggest concern is Medicare's use of these tools is slowed."

America's Health Insurance Plans and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the two largest insurance sector groups, argued that creating an optional public insurance plan would ruin the coverage many workers get from their employers. However, such a plan is of upmost importance to Obama and many congressional Democrats.

However, the Chamber of Commerce expressed his anger over the policy in a letter, stating he would oppose their bill unless it is edited, because it would be "harmful to businesses of all sizes, to the economy, and to American workers."

The letter from the group, representing 3 million U.S. businesses, was one of the most explicit statements of resistance so far from a key contributor.
