- 1). Call the State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission. Call 1 (888) 486-3339 to reschedule your moped test. You can use this number to reschedule an appointment even if you've never taken the test before, but a scheduling conflict arises. If you need to re-take a portion of the test, the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) will schedule your test at least two weeks out from the date of failure. This gives you enough time to address the reasons for failure.
- 2). Prepare relevant documents. You may need to get certain paperwork together in order to satisfy the requirements of your new appointment. The moped you use for the test must be inspected, registered and insured in New Jersey. You must have your validated permit with you any time you ride, too, including during your skills test. Compile those papers to bring with you, even if you've shown them before.
- 3). Fix gear or equipment problems. You must wear a helmet free of scratches that inhibit your field of vision. If you unaccompanied by a licensed motorcycle operator, you must bring your moped on an approved flatbed or pick-up truck or pull it on an approved trailer. Your moped must be free of mechanical issues that result in stalls, too.
- 4). Learn any relevant operating skills. You must execute a turn and stop, cone weave or U-turn and obstacle swerve. You must be able to brake to the satisfaction of the test administrator. If you failed to perform one of these skills, continue to practice with your validated permit and a licensed motorcycle operator until you are comfortable with all of them.
