• One of the most prevalent alternatives to Ethernet wiring is a wireless network. With a wireless network, an Internet signal can be sent out over a large area using a wireless modem; the signal is then picked up by any device with Wi-Fi capability. Electrical Lines

• Another alternative to Ethernet wiring is to set up a system where an Internet signal is transmitted through the electrical lines in a building. With this system, you can simply access the Internet from any power outlet that is connected to the system. To do so, get an adapter that plugs into the Internet modem and into a wall outlet. Then you will need another device to connect to another outlet to convert the Internet signal into a usable format.
  
  

Phone Lines

• One of the original ways that computers accessed the Internet was through phone lines. This is still commonly used for dial-up Internet connections. To make this work, you simply plug a phone cord into an outlet on the wall and plug the other end into the appropriate outlet on your computer. Some computers are not compatible with this type of cord, but it is still available with certain models.
  
  

Cellular Internet

• With cellular Internet technology, you can pick up a cell phone signal and use it to access the Internet. Many smartphones regularly use this capability to browse the Internet. Laptops that can hook up to the cellular network are also available. To use this service, you pay a subscription fee to the wireless provider.
