- Christian counselors in Florida fall into one of three licensing categories: initial examinations; reciprocity, or those from other jurisdictions; and grandfather clause from before June 30, 2010. The candidate fills out an application; the Board of the State also answers questions regarding the applicant's qualifications.
- Christian counselors in Florida must go through several steps to become certified and to legally be able to call themselves "counselors." They must complete and submit personal information, including college courses they have taken. They must provide practicum and professional information as it relates to Christian counseling. Then, a supervisor and program director must confirm this information. Finally, they must submit personal references.
- The candidate must also complete and submit 30 hours of theological studies to the board. He must pass the board examination and complete several specialized courses including laws and rules, HIV and AIDS and prevention of medical errors.
