- Kumasi is the heartland of the country's largest ethnic group, the Ashanti. Famed for its gold smiths, Kumasi is also known for its massive central market and is the hometown of Kofi Annan.
- Mole National Park is one of the few wildlife areas in West Africa. Large numbers of mammal, reptile and amphibian can be seen during walking tours with armed rangers.
- Slave raiders kidnapped natives and brought them forcibly to Salaga where they were bid on, sold and forced to walk to coastal forts, a distance of over 500 miles. Tours here are eerie and informative.
- Cape Coast is a picturesque university town. Slaves from Salaga were brought to Cape Coast Castle, as well as nearby Elmina Castle, before being shipped west. Tours of the castles are a must.
- Bukom, a vibrant fishing village within the capital of Accra, is home to the Ga people, the city's founders. Bukom is a wellspring for world class boxers and, though it might sound odd, Ga funeral processions are famed worldwide and should be sought out.
