- The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo's mission is to "promote youth education - preserve Western heritage." It hosts the fifth largest indoor professional rodeo in the country, while junior exhibitors compete in the livestock show and other events. More than 2,000 volunteers work at the rodeo or plan during the year to ensure its success. While the fair promotes Texas' agricultural heritage, the majority of scholarship recipients come from suburban or urban backgrounds. Any high school student may apply through the college or university they plan to attend or their member organization.
- Texas FFA members may apply for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo scholarship, which pays $10,000 in the 2011-2012 academic year, broken into increments over eight semesters. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA to continue receiving the scholarship. Only those students majoring in approved disciplines may continue receiving the award. Winners must attend the state FFA convention scholarship luncheon, held in July, and send thank-you notes to the the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo.
- The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo scholarships provide financial assistance for incoming freshmen at Austin Community College. Applicants must have at least a B average during high school, graduate from a Texas high school and demonstrate financial need. These non-renewable scholarships may be used for tuition, books and fees. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA with successful completion of nine hours of study.
- Students at Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in Lubbock are eligible to apply for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo scholarship. Other partners as of 2011 include Texas A&M University in College Station, the University of Texas, Austin and Texas State University with its various campuses. Members of the Texas 4-H Youth Foundation may also apply for scholarships.
