Tips on Building Wooden Chicken Houses

Wooden chicken houses are always nice to look at, some of them even look like real houses.
One thing that I like about them is their flexibility and you can paint them with any color you want.
The first thing you have to decide on is the number of chickens you are planning to raise.
For a bigger flock, you definitely need a bigger coop.
A walk-in wooden coop with nesting boxes on each side is ideal.
If you will raise 4 to 6 chickens as a hobby then a smaller coop will do.
If you want wooden chicken houses to last longer, you have to invest on top-of-the-line materials.
The coop will be an outdoor structure and this means it will be subject to winds, storms, hurricanes and temperature changes.
Do not use cheap wood because you will just end up wasting more money in the long run.
Use something that has been treated to be water resistant.
This will absolutely reduce rotting problems.
You need to make the coop's structure solid, you can do this by using 2x4 lumber for cross beams and rafters.
For your mounting structure, use 4x4 posts.
Investing in high quality materials now will save you from high maintenance and costly repairs and replacements in the future.
Wooden chicken houses need to be positioned where the chickens can get a lot of sunlight.
Flightless birds do not do well in cold weather conditions in general.
If you live in a region where you don't get sufficient sunlight then you have to invest on a warming light or panel.
Construct a coop where it would allow you to clean it easily and of course you also want something that will make you collect eggs with ease.
There are some construction plans that include nests which will permit you to automatically gather eggs.
